Parents' FAQ
What do the kids actually dance there?
The festival is yosakoi, a Japanese street dance performed with hand clappers called naruko. The choreography is wide open, and the rulebook lets a foreign team use its own folk melody. Your team brings an Israeli piece and adds the naruko.
Is a visa needed for Japan?
No. Ordinary Israeli passport holders enter Japan visa free for stays of up to 90 days. A valid passport is required, and from age 16 fingerprints are taken at immigration.
August in Tokyo is hot, how do you handle it?
August in Tokyo is hot and humid, and we plan around it. On performance days there is a changing room, shade, water and fixed breaks, and the group has a medical plan in place. Parents get a packing list built for the heat in advance.
What about food? My child does not like Japanese food
The hotel includes breakfast and dinner, and we agree a child friendly menu in advance. Special dietary needs are arranged with us before the trip, and kosher supply in Japan is limited so it needs early planning. It is worth packing some snacks from home.
